I-10 Mobile River Bridge Design-Build Project

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) I-10 Mobile River Bridge (MRB) Project aims to increase capacity to meet existing and predicted future traffic volumes of Interstate 10, while minimizing impacts to Mobile’s maritime industry. The Project begins at the 1-10 Broad Street Interchange and ends east of the existing Wallace Tunnel Interchange. It will provide a new six-lane cable-stay bridge over the Mobile River with approaches starting just east of Virginia Street in Mobile and ending between the I-10 Bayway Bridges, approximately one-half mile east of the East Tunnel Interchange.

The project will be delivered via the progressive design-build delivery model, and includes:

  • A new six-lane, cable-stayed bridge with a minimum 215 feet of required vertical clearance across the Mobile River channel
  • Two high level approach spans starting east of Virginia Street in Mobile and ending between the Bayway bridges
  • Modifications to interchanges at: Broad Street, Virginia Street, Texas Street, and Canal/Water Street at the west tunnel Portal.

ALDOT Business Inclusion Goals

ALDOT has submitted a proposed project DBE goal of 2.79% of the estimated contract amount for FHWA approval.

KMT is committed to meeting the business diversity goals set forth by ALDOT for this Project.

Firms should be certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) by the Alabama Unified Certification Program in order for their participation to count towards the established DBE goal. Firms currently certified in their home state Unified Certification Program may apply for DBE with ALDOT.
